Gothic Goddess Reborn. Kat Von D is no stranger to reinvention. From tattoo artist to beauty mogul, reality TV star to musician, she has continuously defied expectations. Her latest metamorphosis sees her embracing the role of a gothic pop icon, with the release of her sophomore album, My Side of the Mountain, and an upcoming European and UK tour that is sure to skyrocket the icon into next level status.

Kat Von D, once synonymous with ink-stained rebellion and the high-octane world of tattoo artistry, has inked a new chapter into her story—this time with melody, mystery, and musical talent. After her role in TLC’s LA Ink catapulted her into success as a celebrity tattoo artist, Kat has spent the past few years transforming from an ink icon into the gothic goddess of music.
Kat Von D's transition into music was marked by her debut album, Love Made Me Do It (2021), which spun her into pop stardom. However, it was her 2024 release, My Side of the Mountain that truly solidified her position in the music industry. In an era marked byuncertainty and a craving for authenticity, the gothic aesthetic—romantic, sorrowful, intense—offers emotional depth inside of music. Beneath layers of lace and synth, gothic pop has finally found its place.

Congrats on the incredible accomplishment, and you have to be completely thrilled to see your Music career thriving from “Exorcism” to My Side of the Mountain. Tell us a little about your Musical journey to get to where you are today.
KAT VON D: It is exciting indeed! This will be my first time returning to Europe in almost a decade, so the idea that I’ll be able share this musical chapter in my life with fans I’ve grown up with is amazing.
You have an incredible portfolio all the way from LA Ink to now a very successful music career. Life must keep you very, very busy. How do you manage to accomplish so much in such little time being so far from LA?
KAT VON D: I think time management is key to any project. Especially after becoming a mom, you really learn how to carve out time for things.
June will leave you very busy travelling through Europe – is there a place you are absolutely excited to see and experience that’s at the top of the list of cities?
KAT VON D: I have special attachments to every city we are playing in, but I am especially excited to take my family to Prague. My husband has never been to the bone church, and I can’t wait to show him on our day off.
Speaking of cities – we see that you are settling into Indiana quite well. Your newly renovated home is absolutely stunning, and definitely has Kat Von D flare to it. Tell us, how was the transition from California to Indiana? (From one Indiana girl to another)
KAT VON D: We love our little corner of the country. The small town I live in has a population of 1,200 people so it’s a true contrast to living in Los Angeles, but we love it and love the peacefulness and privacy we get from living in rural America.
Knowing what you know about the Music / Entertainment Industry, is there any advice or words of wisdom or caution that you would give to aspiring artists just starting their journey?
KAT VON D: Honestly, I'm terrible at giving advice— as everyone’s journey is unique to their own. I found coming from the standpoint of a fan is the most sincere approach.
Venom Magazine thanks you VERY MUCH for your time and for sitting down with us to discuss life and your career. We wish you the very best!
Inside her Victorian-gothic mansion turned studio lies a place where heartache can shimmer like stardust and where darkness isn't something to fear, but something to dance through. By being unique and unapologetically Her, she has become a Musical Gothic Goddess and Icon. Kat Von D has proven that pop music doesn't need to be bright to shine. Sometimes, it glows even brighter from the shadows.
